Educational School Visits

Welcome to Exmoor Game School—an immersive outdoor learning destination where children discover the origins of their food, explore ethical consumption, and reconnect with nature through hands-on experiences.

Rooted in both mainstream and special education, our programme is designed to be inclusive, engaging, and deeply educational. We believe that learning how to prepare and cook food from scratch—especially food sourced sustainably from the land—is not only empowering, but also incredibly fun.

What We Offer

Our school sessions focus on the preparation and respectful consumption of seasonal, local game. Depending on the time of year, this may include:

  • Rabbits
  • Pheasants
  • Grey Squirrels
  • Fish
  • Pigeons
  • Crayfish

Each session includes:

  • Game preparation and cooking – Children learn how to skin, gut, butcher, and cook game animals under expert supervision. The children can get as involved as they like or watch and learn there is absolutely no pressure for them to do anything.
  • Ecological context – We explore why certain species may need to be culled for environmental balance, such as invasive grey squirrels or non-native crayfish.
  • Open discussion – We provide information, not instruction. Our goal is to foster curiosity and understanding—not to tell children what they should or shouldn’t eat.
